OUR FARMS
Production
Our farms are located in the Koue Bokkeveld, one of the few regions in South Africa that experiences snowfall in winter, while summers are typically warm.
Parys, Die Hoek, and EDM are managed under the guidance of estate manager Ernst van Dyk. Across the road, Molenrivier and Meulsrivier were added to the farm portfolio in 2003. Nestled beneath the rugged Skurweberg mountains, these farms are overseen by estate manager Wehan Lourens. In the heart of the Agter-Witzenberg region lies Panorama farm. Although only 15 kilometres from Parys as the crow flies, it is a half-hour drive away.
Parys
Parys sits 1,080m above sea level in a mountainous region with ancient Tafelberg sandstone soil, producing high-quality apples (53 ha) and pears (13 ha). The farm experiences cool winters and mild to warm summers. This is where Howbill Farming’s legacy began, with its oldest orchards dating back to 1974.
Die Hoek
Located at 980m above sea level, Die Hoek grows apples (23 ha) and pears (32 ha). The unit has excellent conditions for fruit production and significant potential for expansion. Still maturing, it presents an exciting opportunity for future growth. Managed by JW Snyman, Carel Maritz, and Johannes Leoa.
EDM
Comprising Ebenezer, Die Kruis, and Malabar farms, EDM grows apples (64 ha), pears (31 ha), and peaches (8 ha). Situated in the hotter, drier Ceres Karoo, its clay soil ensures only the finest fruit quality. Malabar also hosts the wedding and events venue. Managed by Ludwig Prins, Japie Goliath, and Lennox Sono.
Molenrivier
With apples (94 ha), pears (28 ha), peaches (1 ha), and nectarines (9.5 ha), Molenrivier is on the cooler, western-facing slopes of the Skurweberg mountains at 1,030m above sea level. It receives slightly more rain than Parys and EDM. The farm is named after an old mill dating back to 1846. Managed by Riaan Schoeman and Bob Pretorius.
Meulsrivier
Meulsrivier produces apples (80.5 ha), pears (8 ha), and peaches (4 ha). A neighbouring farm to Molenrivier, it shares similar climate conditions. The two farms complement each other in production. Managed by David Milne and Tolman van der Merwe.
Panorama
Located in the Agter Witzenberg Valley, Panorama cultivates apples (71 ha) and pears (1 ha). The valley, as the source of the Breede River, receives more rainfall than the other farms, making it a prime location for fruit production. Managed by André Visser and Thabang.
